Pecha Kucha
I presented a pecha kucha to fellow HPI alums tonight about my current artistic life. So many exciting things happening, I'm just waiting on some more videos and images to put up on the website. Soon! I also saw Reggie Watts perform here in Philadelphia on Saturday night. Reggie is an amazing improvisor, musician, and comedian. His work has inspired a lot of what I am trying to do with my human consciousness performed lecture. Check him out!
NYC
Took a short vacation this weekend into NYC to see Tom Costello's production of The Wundelsteipen at The Flea Theater and The Riot Group's production of Sophie Gets the Horns. I also got to see my friend Amy Rubin's work at the NYU Graduate Design Showcase.
Look for more videos from my project with Megan Mazarick in the next week or so!
The Flowering of Human Consciousness
Check the photo page for a new still from Mining the Mine of the Mind. Megan and I have plans to make a higher quality video next week. Looking forward to it!
In the Works
A few new things in the works including plans to expand Mining the Mine of the Mind into an evening length piece. We are planning on self producing for a performance sometime this year. Next week Megan and I are going to get to work on putting together a Kickstarter video to raise some $$$. I also talked to two new collaborators about two as of yet unnannounced projects. More info on all of these things to come!
Dance UP
This afternoon Megan Mazarick and I performed the latest version of our wacky performed lecture on human consciousness to an audience of dance presenters at the Dance USA Philadelphia showcase. The piece is currently titled Mining the Mine of the Mind for Minderals: A lecture on presence and the neurological correlates of consciousness. We captured the showing with a flip cam so the video and audio is a little sketchy, but the piece itself is awesome. Looking forward to where it goes next! Check it out here.
NYC
Spent the day in NYC today at the Atlantic Acting School working with my friend and mentor George Russell. So great to see so many familiar faces.
Giving Up Waiting
Some wild experiments yesterday with Zornitsa that you can see here.
And here is some wild text from rehearsals with Megan. I'm improvising a spiritual lecture based off of lots of text I've collected from Eckhart Tolle.
"Many of you have only just arrived here now and perhaps some of you are not yet completely here. There may be parts of you that are still arriving. So let's wait for them to get here. But, we’re here to give up waiting as a state of mind! There is another state of mind, or rather no mind, in which you are not waiting for the next moment. You are fully present in the now."
New Pics
Just received a CD with some of the pictures from Sea of Tranquility. Check it out on my photo page.
Getting Better Bodywork
I've written a testimonial for my friend and mentor George Russell. It has been posted on the website for his new organization Getting Better: The Center for Bodywork and Movement. Check it out!
Lots in the Works
Yesterday I gave some feedback to a short showing by fellow HPI alum Alie Vidich. After that I met with the Walking Fish Theatre about teaching opportunities (look for an acting workshop in May). I also met with Megan Mazarick to discuss the future of our piece "Mining the Mine of the Mind for Minderals: A lecture on presence and the neurological correlates of consciousness", and finished the day with a rehearsal for Zornitsa Stoyanova. Lots of great things in the works!
Swarthmore
Last night I taught a crash course in script analysis to an Acting 101 class at Swarthmore University. I had a great time, and I'm looking forward to the final class next week. Thanks for the opportunity Sarah Sanford.
Press
I am back in Philadelphia from my week long residency in Allamuchy, New Jersey. Here is a little blurb about the site-specific piece I helped to create there.
Your Mind? My Mind?
Next up is a showing of some ideas for a piece I am co-creating with Megan Mazarick. It is a TED-talk-on-acid kind of performed lecture on consciousness. The showing is part of the Live Arts Brewery's Scratch Night and will be held on Thursday, March 8th. RSVP here.
Allamuchy Bound
This is my last week of rehearsals for Sea of Tranquility before the cast heads up to Northern New Jersey for our residency in Rutherfurd Hall. We will be meeting the mayor and doing interviews with the local radio stations in addition to a handful of workshops with schools around the area. The performance itself opens on March 2nd.
No Face
Spent the day playing around with No Face Performance Group. They are including me in some rehearsals as they brainstorm ideas for a new piece about sci-fi, Persephone, the Underworld, and black holes.
Tranquility
First rehearsal today for a new performance piece, "The Sea of Tranquility". It is a site specific, historical work to take place at Rutherfurd Hall in Allamuchy, NJ. Featuring a wealthy astronomist, cliff jumping juveniles, men on the moon, and a panther. This is a space holder as we transfer posts over from my last website.
Flights of Fancy
Today was the first rehearsal for a new piece I am co-creating with Megan Mazarick. Possibly for a performance at City Hall in May. Maybe for some other something? Maybe having something to do with lizard people and a mansion tour.
