Workshops Galore
Having a nasty version of the cold hasn't stopped me from taking a whole mess of workshops and classes. Yesterday, I finished a great two week program studying with Pig Iron Theatre Company and tomorrow I'll start a week long workshop on improvisational dance techniques as part of the Falls Bridge festival. I'll share more details about that once it starts up.
Until then, take a look at some writing I did about the week I spent working with dancer/choreographer Susan Rethorst.
Happy New Year
Happy 2013! To start the year off right I had my first day today of a two week-long workshop in devising theater with Pig Iron Theatre Company. It is a great group of people, and I am looking forward to spending time making something out of nothing with performers I've never met before. We will have an open showing of some of the short works we make on the 12th. Get in touch if you'd like more details.
In The LAB
I've been working a lot this past week in the LAB space.
I'm beginning to experiment with a new solo work of my own, directing/co-creating a separate solo piece, and playing around with some ideas for 2013 Philadelphia Fringe. In January I'll be taking part in Pig Iron's Something from Nothing Workshop and rehearsals will start up for the next production I am doing with the Medium Theater Company. That new piece will premiere at the end of February in Allamuchy, NJ.
So, lots of things in their beginning stages. I hope to have some photos from the dance projects I've been up to to share in the next few days, and some video clips from Mining the Mine of the Mind for Minderals.
Happy Holidays!
Making is Thinking
In the midst of a week long workshop with choreographer Susan Rethorst as part of Bryn Mawr's Performing Arts Series. I'm learning a great deal more about making movement for myself and for other bodies. I am especially privileged to be working in the company of so many talented Philadelphia choreographers: Megan Mazarick, Gabrielle Revlock, Katherine Kiefer Stark, Nicole Bindler, Leah Stein, and many more.
Spiel Uhr
I'm back in Philadelphia. I've started working with Jenna and Annie in the LAB studio. It's been great fun and we are hoping to schedule some more time to meet together to see what comes of it. I'm also prepping for performances this month. First up is a short piece for the Puppet Uprising's 13th Annual Year-End Cabaret on the 30th and 1st. And then on the 15th and 16th performances for Group Motion's Spiel Uhr series choreographed by Darcy Lyons.
Sweet Home
At the airport waiting to board my flight to Chicago. I'll be there with family until Saturday, when I return to Philadelphia. My neck is doing much better and I'm looking forward to returning to Philly in a few days and finally working at 100 percent.
Pain in the Neck
Resting a boxing related neck injury, so things have been a bit slower than usual. But, I have things coming up:Some time in the studio playing with Annie Wilson and Jenna Horton.Ongoing rehearsals with RealLivePeople(in)Motion.A performance for Puppet Uprising's year-end cabaret.Looking forward to a week of rest in Chicago with family over Thanksgiving. Hoping to get back in the groove in December.
Susan Rethorst
Some good news! I've been selected to participate in a choreographic workshop with Susan Rethorst from December 3rd-7th.
Reallivepersoninmotion
Check out my interview with RealLivePeople(in)Motion. I'm dancing with them right now as part of a new piece being made for early next year.
Don't Worry
Headed out to Allamuchy, NJ this afternoon to create a deep, dark, dangerous meditation for Rutherfurd's Hall of Haunts. Don't think scary thoughts. Nothing bad will happen. Don't worry.
LAB Fellowship
Wahoo! My LAB Fellowship is underway. For the next 9 months I'll be an artist in residence at the Live Arts Brewery. Keep your eyes peeled for announcements about my LAB supported projects and showings at their monthly Scratch Nights.
Don't Be Scared
After all the craziness that was fringe, things have slowed down considerably. But that doesn't mean there aren't still wild performances on the horizon. Next up is the Hall of Haunts on Oct. 26th and 27th from 5pm-Midnight in Allamuchy, NJ. I'll be creating a unique journey deep into the human mind for one of the many rooms in this historic mansion. Don't be scared.
Coming Up Next
Now that the Philadelphia Fringe is dead and buried, it's on to the next project. Here are a few things to look forward to ...
1. I'll be working on a new dance piece with Gina Hoch-Stall's company RealLivePeople(in)Motion.
2. My LAB Fellowship has started and I am in the beginning phase of a new solo work. More details to come.
3. The group I worked with on The Sea of Tranquility is coming together for another project under the banner Medium Theatre Company. The project has several stages the first of which is a series of solo pieces about mediums, psychics and seers in Rutherfurd Hall at the end of October as part of their "Hall of Haunts". The second is a coming together of these solos for a TBD Philadelphia run. And finally a residency back at the Hall in March 2013.
